Garcia's 11/26

Out for drinks and dessert with J on Black Friday...now that's how you kick off the Christmas season! First up was the classic Garcia's fried ice cream. I have had the dish before, but this was a very worthy order! Caramel and chocolate and who-cares-how-many-calories made this dessert super good!
We also ordered sopapillas. I hadn't tried them and wasn't sure what to expect. I envisioned something like a scone and was a little put off by the heavy bread thing that came out. The menu promised honey and cream cheese to top the sopapilla with. I found it very funny that by honey, Garcia's meant a mini packet of Kraft Pure Honey- something like what you'd get at a fast food place! As for drinks, if you like it tart I recommend the electric lemonade. Does NOT mix well with ice cream- but very yummy in it's own right!

Firehouse Grill:11/24

My sisters, mom, grandma and soon to be sister-in-law ate lunch at the Firehouse Grill for T's mini bridal shower. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and the chicken fajitas. The drink was marginal. I shouldn't have unreachable expectations for strawberry lemonade. It is lemonade with added strawberry flavor. But, I was a little disappointed in this version. Not very much flavor at all. Even if it were plain lemonade it would have been weak.

Not to worry, though! My fajitas were definitely worth it! As the waitress brought out my order we could hear the plate sizzling from across the room! And, not one, but two huge chicken breasts waited sizzling on the spitting and steaming plate (not usual, so don't be surprised when you get just one)! What's up now? The pico de gallo that comes with the meal was really good. It is not hard to get it right, but I am still pretty pleased when it is yummy!! My lunch was very good.

And, then dessert! Firehouse recently introduced a dessert called the Chocolate Confusion cake. Brownie as the base, topped with chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, and a ganache icing AND chocolate chips! If you don't like rich chocolate (what is wrong with you?) this is NOT for you! We also ordered the creme brulee cheese cake. Rich in it's own right, but served more as a refreshing glass of milk next to that chocolate! I found the cake to be layered in exactly the order I placed the best flavors. Best was the brownie, followed by the mousse, and then the cake. Recommending that one for sure! The cheesecake was good. I didn't pick up on the creme brulee so much, but I am sure the first cake was to blame there!!

Food reviews- cuz we got your back

Todd and I were discussing a food review link on our family blog. I felt like there were too many links on the sidebar- so the food gets its own blog! Isn't that how it should go anyway? Here is the purpose of our new food blog; so many conversations find their way to eating. What's good at this restaurant? Where is somewhere new to eat? Where did you get that recipe? Well- we are here to give our two cents. We have a goal to try new things at familiar eateries, new places to dine and new recipes- and give our opinions on them all! You know- as many as we remember to blog about! Hooray!
